1. Summary
Quartz Studio is a local-first Windows desktop application designed to help users create visual procedures, support reports, incident evidence and technical documentation from their own actions.
Quartz Studio does not intentionally upload user captures, project files, OCR text, documents or exports to a Quartz Studio cloud service. The core capture, OCR, review and export workflows run locally on the user's Windows device.
2. Data Processed Locally
Depending on the features used, Quartz Studio may process the following data locally on the user's device:
- screenshots and capture images selected or created by the user;
- annotations, blur regions, crop regions, titles, descriptions and step metadata;
- OCR text extracted locally from selected capture areas;
- local workspace files and export files;
- window title, application name, process metadata and UI Automation metadata for a clicked element;
- mouse click coordinates, button and timestamp during a consent-based capture session;
- local settings such as branding, watermark and workspace preferences.
This data may include personal information if it is visible on the user's screen, appears in a window title, appears in UI text, is present in an image, or is entered by the user into a project.
3. How Data Is Used
Quartz Studio uses this data to:
- create and organize documentation steps;
- run local OCR and local review assistance;
- allow the user to annotate, crop or blur captures;
- generate HTML, PDF or DOCX exports;
- save and reopen local workspaces;
- improve the accuracy of local step descriptions during a consent-based session.
4. Local Storage and Retention
Quartz Studio stores project data in the local workspace chosen by the user. Captures are kept locally until the user deletes them from the application, removes the workspace files, or uninstalls/removes local data according to their own device policies.
The application includes controls for deleting captures from a session. Deleted captures are removed from the local capture storage for that session while the remaining step structure may stay available with a placeholder.
5. Screen Capture, OCR and Desktop Context
Screen capture and assisted click capture are intended to be used only when the user has the required rights and consent to capture the visible desktop content.
Quartz Studio does not intentionally capture keyboard input. The mouse helper is limited to click events needed to create steps during an active consent-based session. Local OCR uses Windows capabilities on selected or captured images. Window context and UI Automation metadata are used to describe the active window or clicked element.
Because screenshots, OCR text, window titles and UI labels can contain sensitive or personal information, users should review and blur sensitive areas before sharing or exporting documents.
6. Data Sharing
Quartz Studio does not intentionally share user captures, documents, OCR text or project content with a Quartz Studio cloud service.
If the user contacts support, Red Viciousse will process only the information the user chooses to provide for that support request. Users should not send confidential captures, credentials, personal data or customer data unless they have reviewed and intentionally chosen to share that content.
Microsoft Store, Windows, payment, licensing, installation, update, crash reporting or platform services operated by Microsoft may process data under Microsoft's own terms and privacy statement.
7. Telemetry, Advertising and Tracking
Quartz Studio does not add application telemetry, advertising identifiers or third-party analytics in the initial Microsoft Store release.
8. User Controls
Users can:
- choose where local workspaces are stored;
- start or stop capture sessions;
- decide when to run OCR;
- review captures before export;
- blur or remove sensitive areas;
- delete captures from a session;
- delete local workspace files using the application or operating system tools.
9. Security
Quartz Studio uses local processing for sensitive workflows. Export blur regions are flattened into the exported image output so that blurred content is not preserved as a simple visual overlay.
Users remain responsible for protecting their Windows account, device, workspace location and exported documents.
10. Children
Quartz Studio is not directed to children and is intended for professional documentation workflows.
11. Changes
This policy may be updated when Quartz Studio changes its features, data practices or distribution requirements. The published policy will show the effective date of the current version.
